As the summer winds down, several shows are Broadway close as the fall slate begins to start previews. Closing the weekend of 8/8-9 are *Cats*, *Death of a Salesman* and *Every Brilliant Thing*. The following week seeing the closing of *Ragtime* and the month ends with the closing of the long-running *Moulin Rouge*. Holdovers, but not drawing like they used to are 2025 Best Musical winner *Maybe Happy Ending*, *Six*, *Chicago* and *Two Strangers*. Now, all of these shows have discounted ticket options, detailed on our home page, but what SHOULD you see. Noting that tastes differ from person to person, here’s our list, in no particular order of the top 10 shows you should catch while in NYC, for city residents, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
- Maybe Happy Ending – Classic romantic comedy done ini a unique staging with some terrific songs.
- Ragtime – A great revival with a stellar cast. This one hits all the musical high points.
- Oh, Mary – Tasteless, rude, obscene and one of the funniest things on Broadway in years. Not for the young ones or the easily offended, this comedy about Mary Lincoln will have you laughing till your sides ache.
- Just in Time – The incredible Jeremy Jordan fills the shoes of the late Bobby Darin and belts out the hits in this bio-musical.
- The Outsiders – This Best Musical Tony-winner, based on the timeless YA novel about growing up and fitting in is perfect for adults and teens. Exciting and energetic staging makes this one a must-see.
- Hadestown – A musical whose songs will leave the theater with you. This story of young love and the greek gods will have you laughing, crying and stomping your feet.
- Buena Vista Social Club – The latin beat of old Havana is the driving force behind this thrilling musical. You’ll want to jump up and dance along, and they do have nights where they encourage you to.
- Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) – A romantic comedy that we all need right now. With an incredibly likeable cast and a great score, miss this one at your own peril.
- Six – More a concert than a straight musical, this 90 minute re-telling of the lives of the wives of Henry the VIII is exciting and empowering as they take back their own story.
- Hamilton – After over a decade at the Richard Rodgers Theater, it’s still the one to beat. If you’ve only seen it on the small screen, do yourself a favor and save up for the in-person experience.
You can’t go wrong with any of the other shows currently playing in one of the 41 Broadway theaters, but these are our “must-see” shows. What are yours?
